FAQ

Do you report any of my information to the IRS?

No.

How do you connect to my brokerage accounts?

When you tap "Add accounts" in the app, you can access your broker, authenticate directly with your broker, and grant us access to the accounts you choose. This is 100% between you and your broker.

Technically, we use the Open Finance network via Finicity, a Mastercard company.

The reason we chose to work with Mastercard is their solid security.

Does CapitalGain.AI have direct access to my broker account?

No.

We get your positions and transactions through API calls to Mastercard's Finicity platform.

Can CapitalGain.AI change anything in my brokerage account?

No.

We don't have access permissions to do that.

We can only see what's in the accounts that you enable us to see.

Is Reef Point Systems Inc. a broker/dealer or a bank?

No.

Do you sell my information to anyone?

No.

What do you know about me?

Only what we need to know in order to calculate your capital gain tax and give you ideas how to reduce your tax bill. Specifically:

  1. Positions and transactions in the accounts you gave us visibility to.

  2. Your filing status, ordinary income, and state/city of residence that you type into the Home page in the app.

  3. We also know your name if you sign in with Gmail.

Why can't I see my credit card and checking accounts in CapitalGain.AI?

Because these accounts don't affect your capital gain tax.

Since we cannot help you with this information, we'd rather not see it.

Why do you want to know where I live?

Because if affects your tax.

For example, say you made $1,000 in the market.

If you live in California, up to $123 of it will go to the state.

But if you live in Texas, you keep the whole thing.

Why do you want to know what city I live in?

Because it may affect your tax.

For example, Philadelphia levies 3.88% on your capital gains.

But if you live in a city that doesn't levy significant tax (like Los Angeles) we don't need to know so we don't ask.

The app will ask for your city of residence only if your state of residence that you gave us includes cities with high tax rates.
